Farewell visits in Latvia

In the context of concluding his mission in Latvia, Dan Bălănescu, the Ambassador of Romania, paid two visits to the Latvian MFA and Parliament on 5 July 2019.

On this occasion, he exchanged views on the bilateral relation with MFA State Secretary Andris Pelšs. Ambassador Bălănescu thanked the Latvian side for the very good cooperation, especially during the Romanian EU Council Presdiency, when the Latvian MFA hosted two jointly organized conferences on EU Enlargement and Eastern Partnership. As well, he reminded the two visits FM Edgars Rinkēvičs paid to Romania in 2018.

In his turn, State Secretary Pelšs had words of appreciation for the activity of the Romanian Ambassador in Latvia, especially for the high number of events organized during the Romanian EU Presidency, stressing its very good performance. He stressed the common priority given to the Eastern Partnership and spoke about the current situation in the Republic of Moldova.

During the farewell visit to the Latvian Parliament, Deputy Speaker Dagmāra Beitnere-Le Galla took turns to congratulate Romania for the results of its Romanian EU Council Presidency. As well, she expressed satisfaction for the very good bilateral cooperation in recent years, especially between Parliaments, reiterating the invitation to the Friendship Group with Latvia from the Romanian Parliament to pay a visit to Riga. In addition, she stressed the need to continously intensify the bilateral commercial, touristic, academic and cultural exchanges, mentioning the usefulness of a direct flight between the two countries.

The Ambassador of Romania thanked for the cooperation and the support received all this time from the Latvian Parliament, with a special mention for the friendship group with Romania. Also, he thanked for the support given to the Romanian EU Council Presidency. He reviewed the recent parliamentary visits, reiterating the interest of the Romanian side for the relation with Latvia, which he congratulated for its latest successes, such as the euro adoption, the 2014 EU Presidency or its OECD accesion.
