The inauguration of the exhibition "The Eternal Beauty of the Romanian Village" in Panevėžys, Lithuania

The Ambassador of Romania paid a visit to the town of Panevėžys on 19 April 2019, where he inaugurated, in the context of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU, the exhibition "The Eternal Beauty of the Romanian Village", by the photographer Sorin Onişor. On this occasion, he had a meeting with the Mayor Rytis Mykolas Račkauskas, re-elected for a new term in the March 2019 elections.

During the meeting with Mayor Račkauskas, the Ambassador of Romania was interested in the projects developed by the municipality and discussed the possibilities for developing cooperation with Maramureş, a county twinned with Panevėžys, especially by organizing the Maramures Days at Panevėžys. The Mayor mentioned that this issue will be on the agenda of the discussions that a delegation of the Panevėžys City Hall will have during a visit in Maramureș, in May, when an artistic ensemble from the city will perform a series of shows in Baia Mare.

At the opening of the photo exhibition, hosted by the Garsas Cinema, the Ambassador of Romania presented the results of the first 100 days of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council, outlining the more than 1100 events hosted in Brussels and Romania, as well as the 90 legislative files completed. He also referred to the milestone events of the next period, especially the Sibiu Summit on the Future of Europe and the Brussels high level event dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the Eastern Partnership. He then presented the photo exhibition "The Eternal Beauty of the Romanian Village", illustrating the life of the Romanian village from different regions of the country, from Maramureș to the Danube Delta.

In his turn, Mayor Račkauskas had words of appreciation for the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council, but also for the Embassy's initiative to open this exhibition at Panevėžys. In the context, he talked about the pleasant experiences he had during the visits to our country, inviting the audience to discover the beautiful places displayed in the pictures. He also referred to the very good cooperation with Maramures, the visit that the municipality delegation will pay to Baia Mare in May and the Maramureş Days project at Panevėžys.

The event was attended by local officials, businessmen and culture people and the general audience. They all appreciated the exhibition and the beautiful pictures from our country.

The exhibition will remain open at Panevėžys until mid-May 2019.
