The visit of a delegation of the Friendship Parliamentary Group with the Republic of Lithuania of the Parliament of Romania to Lithuania

A delegation of the Friendship Parliamentary Group with the Republic of Lithuania of the Romanian Parliament paid a visit to Vilnius on 15-17 April 2019, at the invitation of Mr Algirdas Sysas, Chairman of the Group for Inter-Parliamentary Relations with Romania of the Lithuanian Parliament.

The Romanian delegation was led by Mr Dan Vîlceanu, the Chairperson of the Friendship Group, and included Mr Cãlin Vasile Andrei Matei, the Vice-Chairperson of the group, and Ms Elena Burcioagã, parliamentary counsellor. Also, the Ambassador of Romania and Mrs Bianca Mina, Minister Counselor, participated in the talks.

The program of the visit included a working lunch with the president of and members of the Group for Inter-Parliamentary Relations with Romania from the Lithuanian Parliament, led by Mr Algirdas Sysas and meetings with members of the Committee on Social Affairs and Labor led by Ms Rimantė Šalaševičiūtė, the Human Rights Committee led by Mr Valerijus Simulik and members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, led by Mr Juozas Bernatonis. The Romanian parliamentary delegation had also meetings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with Mr Eitvydas Bajarūnas, ambassador at large responsible for hybrid threats management, and at the Ministry of Social Security and Labor, with Mr Eitvydas Bingelis, vice-minister.

The agenda included topics of interest such as bilateral relations, regional security, Brexit, hybrid threats, fake news management, the migration and its effects on the labor market, the public pensions’ system in the two countries, measures to support disabled people, children's rights, etc.

The discussions have highlighted similar views and the common interest to continue parliamentary dialogue in the same open manner, taking into account the priorities on the national agendas and the positions and common interests at European and Euro-Atlantic level, especially in the context of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
